Values

WE VALUE a genuine, growing relationship with God.

More than a commitment to Jesus, this is an on-going relationship that defines one’s identity, shapes one’s world-view, and governs one’s affections (Matthew 22:36-37; Philippians 3:10-14; 1 Thessalonians 4:1). Therefore, ministry efforts will be devoted to the cultivation of growth and vitality in this relationship on the part of all participants in this congregation.

WE VALUE in-depth, biblical knowledge.

The Scriptures are the source and basis for our knowledge of God, our understanding of the church’s identity, purpose, nature, functions, and values, and everything else “pertaining to life and godliness” (2 Peter 1:3; Acts 2:42; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Hebrews 5:11-14; James 1:23-25). Therefore, we will seek to provide instruction in biblical truth that is accurate, relevant, and grounded in historic evangelical faith; and equip believers to properly study the Scriptures for themselves.

WE VALUE ascribing worth to God.

The conscious, intentional declaration of God’s supreme value fulfills our purpose as His “called together” people and helps us keep our bearings in a fallen world (John 4:23-24; Romans 1:20-21; 12:1; 1 Peter 2:9; Revelation 4-5). Therefore, we will provide opportunities and encourage believers to authentically and accurately worship God in both personal and group settings.

WE VALUE loving relationships.

The edification that promotes growth and meets needs takes place in the context of a community characterized by caring, servanthood, and accountability (Matthew 22:39; Romans 12:10-13; Ephesians 4:11-16; Philippians 2:1-5). Therefore, we will provide multiple opportunities for believers to be involved in genuine, Christian community, emphasizing small groups as a primary vehicle to that end.

WE VALUE grace orientation.

Grace characterizes the disposition of God toward sinners, promotes healing of broken people, and motivates obedience from grateful hearts (John 1:14-18; Romans 8:31-39; 1 Peter 5:10; 2 Peter 3:18). Most often, God’s grace is mediated to individuals through other Christians (Ephesians 4:16; 1 Peter 4:10-11). Therefore, repudiating a performance-system mindset, we will seek to exhibit and promote a lifestyle that draws upon the resources and perspectives of grace in the conduct our ministry.

WE VALUE every-member, gift-oriented ministry.

Each believer has a contribution to make and is to be engaged in ways that match up with his or her unique equipping by God (Romans 12:3-13; 1 Corinthians 12; 1 Peter 4:10-11). Therefore, we will encourage and assist each believer in identifying the components of his/her unique design and attempt to make ministry assignments on the basis of giftedness.

WE VALUE – Comprehensive scope of ministry.

This is the ability to minister significantly to people of all ages, spiritual stages, and conditions in life (Matthew 19:14; Hebrews 5:12-6:1; Titus 2:1-7). Therefore, we will organize ministry structures and devote resources to provide growth opportunities for people in the various ages, stages, and circumstances of life, balanced with opportunities for cross-generational fellowship.

WE VALUE inter-community, cross-denominational partnership.

The New Testament concept of the “local church” encompasses all of the evangelical congregations in a geographical area. Diversity, unity, and partnership are to be exercised between congregations as well as within them (John 10:14-16; 17:20-23; Acts 2:46-47; 20:17-20; Romans 14; Ephesians 4:1-6). Therefore, we will seek to advance the well-being of each evangelical congregation in our community, promote the unity of all true believers, and maximize our community impact through partnership in outreach.

WE VALUE the salvation of lost people.

Jesus died to save sinners. Then He gave his church the assignment of declaring the gospel and making disciples, at home and around the world (Matthew 28:16-20; Acts 1:8; 2 Corinthians 5:18-20; Colossians 4:2-6; 1 Peter 3:15; 2 Peter 3:9). Therefore, we will equip and challenge believers to cultivate relationships with pre-Christians and share the gospel in ways that address their needs and introduce them to Jesus Christ. We will also invest in cross-cultural missions through prayer, financial support, and the sending and supporting of missionaries from our congregation.
